Neo-Renaissance architecture is a variety of 19th-century architectural designs that were not Greek Orthodox or Italian Renaissance and instead was influenced by many influential modernizing European models. Neo-Renaissance Many modern architects and designers claim credit for the neo-Renaic architectural design but it was the architect Antonio Gaudi who deserves most of the credit for the real origins of the Neo-Renaissance style. His design skills included everything from the most innovative roofing materials to the use of colored glasses. However, he did incorporate the common characteristics of both Greek and Italian Renaissance styles into his neo-Renaic architectural plans. This is an important characteristic of the neoRenaic architectural language, which we will discuss in the following paragraphs. We will explore the relationship between this language and neo-Renaic architecture in greater detail below.
Neo-Renaic architecture has been said to be influenced by the styles of the ancient Greece, Egypt, Rome and Italy as well as the French architecture of the period known as the Regency Period. The works of Vitruvian masterpieces, such as the Arch of Titus and the Catacombs of Kom es-Shouqafa, are also believed to have influenced Neo-Renaic architecture. The style was also shaped by the works of Benvenuto da Vinci. A little closer to the archetype, the Neocatechoric Temple in Sofia could be influenced by the massive Catacombs of Rome. It’s not a surprise that many styles and concepts of Neo-Renaic architectural design have strong connections to classical Roman or Greek architectural designs.
Neo-Renaic architecture is akin to a variety of types of architecture, and because of the way it combines and changes shape, it could be classified as an early entrant to the scene. Columns as well as sloping roofs, and rounded forms in architecture. These are features used to emphasise the verticality of a building.
As you may notice in the works of Vitruvius numerous structures of the early Rome such as the forum, had double-tiered roofs. This kind of roof design was also common in the early days of Egypt. The roofs were constructed of a variety of materials which gave them the appearance of various structures. Neo-Renaic architecture resembles this kind of architecture. Neo-Renaissance features include courtyards, stairways with stages or colonnades, as well as the use domes (or sun-dial temples). The unique roof layouts and rounded shapes are distinctive.
Neo-Renaic architecture also employs elements of geometric form. For instance, a structure like the Vitruvian temple could have been designed in an egg shape. It has been suggested that Neoplantus’ architecture is similar to the Menghi-Jihi complex, which is located in China. Neoplantus, for example, features an onion dome as its principal design.
Neo-Renaic architecture also has another interesting characteristic. Neo-Renaic architecture makes use of what is called “The Book of Forms” unlike other forms of architecture. It is widely believed that the Book of Forms exists in Sanskrit, and this is the case with this kind of architecture. However, the style of the book does not resemble anything that is found in the sacred texts of India. Instead, it is believed that the Book of Forms was used by the Romans as a reference for their architectural designs. However, some scholars believe that this style of architecture was actually inspired by Hindu temples.
Neo-Renaic architecture employs forms that are quite different from Western architectural styles. This is why, when looking at Neo-Renaic architecture, it is possible to be tempted to think it’s a Christian temple or church. However, in many cases, the architecture is so bizarre that one might even think that it is an experiment in pulp cartoon structures. Additionally, the forms are arranged in bizarre ways. For instance, the head of a pinball machine could be placed on top of the table, or the cake in a rectangular shape can be placed on the top of the head.
This kind of architecture is similar to Post-Renaic architecture in the way the forms are placed. However, the distinction is that the arrangement and order are different. Neo-Renaic architecture uses abstract forms to create a completely unique design. The unique design of this structure makes it stand out from the rest of the architectural styles of the past and draw the attention of those who look at it.
